How to Get a 50% Response Rate on your Cold Emails

You’ve got to be kidding me, right?  Nobody gets resonse rates like that, and certainly not ones that are positive.

Well, think again.

I recently used The Reacharound method to cold email 30 of the top podcasters in a handful of iTunes categories.  The result?

  • 17 of 30 responded within 48 hours
  • 7 confirmed bookings of podcast episodes

Not too shabby for a days work, right?

I think the lesson here is one of the Permission Economy that Seth Godin talks about so much.  We live in a time where everyone and their mother can pound your inbox with worthless soliciatations for products or services.

Or you can play longball.

You can offer something of unique and specific value to a potential client. Truthfully and passionately serve up that value proposition to the customer without asking for anything in return.  And then simply convey the value your product or service provides and it’ll be the easiest sale you ever made.

Who doesn’t want to help out someone who’s already helped them out?

There are a million names for this approach but I wanted to give one very specific example of how I’m using it with Podcastmotor.

Leave a comment in the section below with your favorite story about how you gave first and asked later (if at all!).   Can’t wait to hear the lessons we all have learned.
