Miss me?
It’s been a few (months) since I’ve been in touch, and in the spirit of keeping it real here I want to share a bit about why.
Like many of you, I have been a bit scattered in my focus, and as a result just not productive.
Too many “important” things going on, and not enough dedication to a single channel, approach, and tactic. Story of my life, if I’m honest.
But in a first, I’ve given myself the time to really reflect on what I want, what I think gives me the best chance to succeed, and what is sustainable for me as a creator and a founder.
But to start with, I think it’s helpful to talk about what’s not sustainable (i.e. my previous approach).
The Current Situation
It looked something like this:
- come up with an idea for a YouTube video each week (2 for my personal channel)
- find a guest and topic for my podcast (Rogue Startups)
- come up with an idea for this blog post
- write 5 social posts for LinkedIn
- repurpose my podcast episode and YouTube video
- actually run a business
Can we say Unsustainable.
The issue isn’t creating each of these pieces of content every week.,
The issue is I’m actually creating 4 different pieces altogether. 4 different topics, 4 different creation sessions, and it’s too much.
The Solution
So, if we say that the current approach is unsustainable, the next step for me is to narrow in on the one thing that I wanted to do more than everything else.
For me that’s YouTube.
Know that I run a podcasting company, and arguably at this point my podcast is my largest “content channel” – but I just love YouTube.
I won’t go into the why of it, but I think that YouTube is probably the single best growth channel for most businesses today.
No, it’s not LinkedIn.
LinkedIn may be great for promoting your content, but there’s nothing that matches the size, engagement level, and depth of YouTube.
So, if I want to go big on YouTube, I ought to focus on creating more YouTube videos, and making them the absolute best they can be, right?
Well, I have been, and it's starting to pay off.
But what that means is that my blog here (and the newsletter that accompanies it will be a recap and analysis of that week's YouTube and Podcast content. Cause I just can't stop Rogue Startups. It's my content baby.
